Artisan and tradition in Val di Fassa.
Val di Fassa is rich of skilled craftsmen, real and proper artist that are able to transmit their story and tradition through their opera and work of art. The inhabitants are an important part of the territory who know how to maintain and transmit their culture and tradition.
Even today every centre of Val di Fassa hosts numerous artisan work shops where wood workers transform simple trunks of wood in unique pieces, created entirely by hand. Typical, Ladino Carnival mask depicting sacred or daily life fills the work place of the wood workers and artists.
Ladin de Fascia Museum collects historical information of the whole of Ladina, a history which is confined not only to the walls of the museum, but on the contrary it can be seen in the whole region in broken sections as the workshop of Bottaio in Moena, the mill of Pezol in Pera di Fassa and the venetian saw mill in Penia.
The Ladino Carnival is one of the most impressive celebrations of the zone. A festive moment to say goodbye to the winter and prepare to welcome the beautiful season. During the mascherèdes the local people parade on the streets dressed in mask which is really a unique, colourful and an exciting spectacular which emotions both adults and kids .The faceres is a typical wooden mask that is entirely hand made by the artisans of Val di Fassa, unique pieces as a witness of centuries of tradition and culture.
Fronte dei Ricordi is a cultural association founded with the objective to transmit the history of the recent past of the valley. Sad scenes of the great War, example the wartime foot paths, shelters, fixed positions, are some of the evidence of a conflict that continues to arouse interest and curiosity. Apart from relics of war the Museum of Moena also has a collection of old, common, everyday objects used by young soldiers at the war front.
The high mountain refuges are the ideal place to discover the traditions of the area and around the San Pellegrino Pass there are several points to get to savor the culinary delights and live fully the mountains in both summer and winter.
The Rifugio Fuciade, a small village situated on a mountain pasture at 1982 m, behind the San Pellegrino Pass and at the foot of Cima Uomo. A handful of small barns surrounded by greenery and in absolute silence.
The Rifugio Flora Alpina a corner of paradise at the foot of the Dolomites where you can relax in unspoilt nature, thick forests and green meadows during the winter become white expanses full of soft snow. Outside the hut there is a track for the boat and the hotel Arnika organizes weekly visits to the sunset to enjoy the thrill of the descent.
The Baita Paradiso is located in the middle of the high pastures of the San Pellegrino Pass, right on the ski slopes, just below the arrival of the new chairlift Costabella. Recently restructured with old colleagues in every season of the year gives the feeling of a resort in the Dolomites.
The Malga San Pellegrino, is open to the public, for the tasting of typical dishes from Trentino in a family environment and strongly linked to respect the traditions of the mountains.
The Tabià En Tal Zanac is another perfect retreat to enjoy, in a unique, traditional cuisine.
